Save Fairy Alley: Keep Austin’s Neighborhood Art Alive

Our beloved neighborhood mural, “Fairy Alley,” is under threat — and we need your help to protect it.

Fairy Alley isn’t just a street — it’s a story.

Created by neighbors, families, and kids through the City of Austin’s Neighborhood Partnering Program, Fairy Alley has been a symbol of creativity, connection, and community pride for nearly a decade.

Now, a new TxDOT policy threatens to remove community-painted streets across Texas — including Fairy Alley. Officials say these murals don’t “serve a direct traffic control function.” But to us, they serve something far more vital: belonging, joy, and the spirit that makes Austin Austin.

We believe safety and creativity can coexist. The City and TxDOT can work with residents — not against them — to preserve neighborhood art while keeping our streets safe.

Let’s keep Austin colorful, kind, and community-driven. Sign today to protect Fairy Alley and all neighborhood murals from being wiped away.
